Laura Fried is the Board Chair for TURNmusic. Laura earned a Master’s degree in City Planning from MIT and a Bachelor’s degree in East Asian Studies from Princeton University. A musician from a young age, she learned to play the piano, flute, oboe, english horn, bassoon and contrabassoon. She is a graduate of the Interlochen Arts Academy and played bassoon with the Interlochen Arts Academy Orchestra, Boston University Tanglewood Institute Orchestra, and Princeton University Orchestra, in venues ranging from Lincoln Center to Eastern Europe. Laura has played with summer music festivals including the Vermont Mozart Festival Orchestra. She enjoys chamber and symphonic music and has performed with the Green Mountain Mahler Festival, Burlington Civic Symphony, Vermont Philharmonic and the Montpelier Chamber Orchestra. When not working as an instructional designer she enjoys designing ecological gardens and has served two terms on the board of the North Branch Nature Center in Montpelier, VT. She and her husband have two children and love to ski and garden.
